I’ve known about Tekka Market for some years now but I’ve only come to check it out recently. Now, I ask myself why I haven’t done so sooner.
I’ve found a lot of stuff I’ve been looking for at Tekka – like fresh beef! Prior to Tekka market, I bought frozen beef at either Cold Storage or Carrefour. Fresh beef at these places were expensive but I was never really satisfied with frozen beef because even after an hour of pressure cooking, it was still tough.
The beef I buy at Tekka Market is fresh and is priced fairly the same as the beef we buy in Manila. It’s tender too. I’m so happy that I can have tapa now whenever I want it. What’s great is at the place I buy my beef from, you can just tell them whether you want tapa, nilaga, bulalo, sinigang, etc.
They use the tender chuck for nilaga which I guess what most people prefer, but I prefer brisket for my nilaga so I get some oil out of the fats when I pressure cook it.
Another thing I found at Tekka Market was malunggay which I cannot find in the grocery stores. I like malunggay on my monggo and I’ve never had it with monggo here in Singapore because it’s not readily available.
I also found Barrio Fiesta bagoong that’s cheaper compared to buying it at Lucky Plaza.
Prices at Tekka are relatively cheaper, but since it’s not so close from my place, buying in bulk would be the best thing to do. So on my last visit, I went home with 8kgs of beef, 2 kgs of chicken, 2 kgs of fish, 1 kg of shrimp and 1 kg of cuttle fish.
That should last us more than a week so we don’t need to go grocery shopping every other day.
I love my food and I live to eat instead of the other way around. So yes, I make sure food at home makes me and hubby look forward to coming home.
Tekka Market is at the corner of Bukit Timah Road and Seranggoon Road. To go to Tekka Market via MRT, get off at Little India station and take exit C.
(I forgot to take a picture when I was there, so I’ll upload one later.)

Thought I’d let you know that the link for “Guide to Working and Living in Singapore” doesn’t work. Looks like the Tekka is a haven for people who would like to cook and eat fresh foods. I’m sure nag enjoy ka!
