Applying for a Long Term Social Visit Pass

December 28th, 2009 · No Comments

Since we are still contemplating whether we would apply Permanent Residency for our newborn son (PR is, after all, a serious commitment), we decided to first apply for a Long Term Social Visit Pass for him that would allow him to stay in Singapore much longer than had he been a tourist which would have been just 30 days.

The application process was pretty much straight forward and hassle free. The application was done online at the ICA website. Our son fell under the category: “Visitor (below 21 years old) Whose Parent Is A Singapore Citizen (SC) or Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR)”. All the requirements and fees are stated on the ICA website.

Since the application would take more than 30 days, my son was also automatically granted a short-term social visit pass. After 4 weeks, I received an In Principle Approval through email with detailed instructions for the completion of formalities.

One thing to note from my experience though, is that since my son has exited and re-entered Singapore while his application was in progress, the Disembarkation card number that was tagged with his application was already different from the current one he was holding. Because of this, we had to pay another S$30.00

Now, our son has his own FIN (Foreigner Identification Number) and ID.
