My pic got chosen in the Nat Geo’s Daily Dozen for Week 4. I’m not sure how easy or hard it is to get chosen because this was my first entry but nevertheless it got me excited.
So maybe you can help me take this to the next level and vote for the pic through this link: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/your-shot/voting-machine (hopefully by giving me a rating of 10
)
I feel like Reese Witherspoon in Election – campaigning for my pic on all the channels I know. I think this is the first time I’ve ever asked anyone for votes. It’s a weird feeling for me. I’m not even sure how big a deal this thing is but I figured, whatevs, it’s still National Geographic. It’s just one of the only few magazines I know where photographers are really skilled at taking pictures and not just photoshopping everything to death. And in the end it still boils down to PR (which I don’t have ) because you need to be top voted to get published. But just being picked for the set makes my day because it was a National Geographic photo editor that made the pick.
If you’ve read my about page, under things I want/ed to be, you’ll see National Geographic photographer right there. That page was written in 2003! And even before that it was already one of my fantasies. Funny how subconsciously I keep going back to that fantasy. I just realized that in my last stint as a DI artist, the photographer I worked for made me write down my goals in the industry on a piece of bond paper and taped it on the wall in front of me. He said, that’s so I would not lose focus. So I wrote down that my goal was to acquire skills in photography worthy of National Geographic. Needless to say, he made me strike it out coz he said it wasn’t related to my function and made me write I want to be a good DI artist for <insert photographer’s name>. To top it off, he told me the odds were almost impossible anyways because National Geographic hardly has Asian photographers. To which I replied, but I was just watching last night about this Japanese National Geographic photographer… and then he said something like but he’s Japanese… I don’t think they have Southeast Asians. I remember saying, but you asked me to write down a goal, so I thought I might as well shoot for the moon. (Ok, I admit is wasn’t a S.M.A.R.T. goal)
So what all this babbling is trying to get at really is … that this is about the closest I can get to that fantasy! I want to have a an issue that I can display on our coffee table and open to that page where my shot is. So please vote for my shot!
