A review of the LG Secret K750

April 1st, 2009 · 5 Comments

I recently upgraded my Sony Ericsson K610i to the LG Secret K750.  I’m not really the type who needs to have the latest phone on hand but our phone package allowed us to upgrade phones every year which we didn’t do last year and hubby thinks we’re losing out.  (Yeah, we’re suckers for marketing schemes that make us think we’re saving when we’re actually spending.)   To me, as long as the it can call, has a calendar, alarm then it all’s well.    Before my Sony Ericsson K610i, I was purely a Nokia phone user.  One of my apprehensions with switching to a different brand of phone is having to get used to the different features.  But with the Sony Ericsson, I didn’t have too much of a problem.  In fact, I found my Sony EricssonK610i very user friendly and convenient.   I expected pretty much the same for my transition to the LG Secret K750.

I did some research on the LG Secret K750 on google and I found that it had pretty good reviews.  I’m not sure now, if I’m the only one who doesn’t like it at all.  It’s a good thing the upgrade I paid for it was cheap otherwise it would’ve been such a waste of money.

First the touch pad is either too sensitive or it’s totally off.  Whenever I press the center button, the down button is also activated – and my fingers are relatively small.  This is super inconvenient when you’re trying to choose a contact to send a message to.  Odds are you’ll accidentally press the down button when pressing the ok button which results to your message being sent to a different contact you intended your message for.   These days, when texting is usually mechanical for your fingers, nobody really spends an extra few seconds to double check whether you pressed an extra button or not.

Second, when I imported all my contacts from my SIM card, the phone displayed extra characters on with the names which can be annoying.  I don’t remember encountering this problem when I switched from my Nokia phone to my Sony Ericsson phone.

So to try to fix the names, I installed the PC suite on my PC.  For starters, I got so many (like a LOT) prompts telling my that the drivers haven’t been tested on XP but I press the “Continue anyway” button.   Now, when I’m trying to connect my phone to my PC, the LG suite doesn’t function completely.  I can’t access my contacts, or backup my phone.  I googled for a solution but it seems everyone else has the same problem.

I honestly, don’t see the what the good reviews are about.  The phone looks stylish in pictures but once you start using it, you’ll find that the screen is always oily and full of fingerprints.

Another very handy feature that I’ve been used to with the Sony Ericsson K610i that’s not in the LG secret is the edit before call feature.  It allows you to temporarily edit a contact’s number before making a call.  That’s very useful specially these days when there are so many different prefixes you need to dial to save on local or IDD calls or text.   And the To Do list doesn’t have an alarm function.  Apparently, LG hasn’t thought about these minor yet very useful features.

If you are a satisfied LG Secret user, do let me know what I’m missing.  I really want to appreciate this phone (basically because hubby really wanted me to have a new phone so he’s really disappointed that this one is giving me headaches) but I don’t see anything to appreciate.

Addendum:
To add to all the inconveniences, the phone is no longer working as of Dec 2009. Now I have to bring it back to LG and claim warranty. Pfft

Totally agree. Phone is useless. I keep getting cut off whilst on a call as my ear touches the touch screen! I was told to hold it at an angle and stay still

    Ha!

yikes! I wanted this phone pa naman for myself! :( now I need to search for a more dependable phone!

I am a Sony Ericsson fanatic also… I thought being a Nokia user for a long time will make me feel terrible for making this decision but I was wrong! I now heart Sony Ericsson! :)

Can you not exchange it with a Sony or Nokia?

I guess I just have to stick with it until the next free phone upgrade from my provider comes.

I even recently found out that even the bluetooth doesn’t connect with my laptop. So I have to bluetooth my files to a Nokia phone before I can even send it over to my laptop. Argh

Bought this phone, and was extremely happy with. If your ears touches the touch screen and then turns off, why dont you look into the settings?

Well, maybe the phone takes some time to get used to, but i’m definitely liking the phone.
