It saddened me to read this article about a cleaner at the zoo being killed by the white tigers.  Based on the article, it seems he deliberately went into the moat that separates the Tigers from the viewing public.  For what reason, beats me.

I sympathize with the cleaner’s loved ones, but I also pity the white tigers.  Even if these animals are in the zoo, they still have their animal instincts intact.   Anyone in their right mind would keep a respectful distance between themselves and these animals specially if the animals are not familiar with them.  Even if they mean no harm they can potentially still be fatal.  Just look at what happened to Roy and Montecore of Siegfried and Roy.

It’s uncertain now what will happen to those white tigers involved in the incident.  I hope they get spared.

I also hope this doesn’t give people a bad impression of the white tigers.  I’ve personally seen these white tigers in the zoo upclose when I did my volunteer zookeeper for a day and they were simply majestic.  Just awesome.  And they do command respect.  They looked pretty well behaved … of course there were iron grills between us but they weren’t like trying to claw out of their enclosure to eat me.

Another thing to note is the zoo is well designed to be safe for visitors even if there are no physical cages around the animals.  So I hope this incident doesn’t keep people from visiting the zoo.

Sabi sa dyaryo parang suicide, pero kung gusto mo pakamatay, bakit mo naman tatakpan pa yung ulo mo ng timba pag kinakagat ka na ng tigre pagkatapos mo sila gulu guluhin ng dala mong walis?  So either gusto nya nga talaga magpakamatay or sobrang nabaliw sya na akala nya hindi sya papansinin ng mga tigre. Anupaman, kawawa naman sya at ang mga naiwan nya.
