Studying in Singapore

July 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Redd left a comment asking about tuition fees in Singapore for his son.

For foreigners wanting to study in Singapore,  the website of the Ministry of Education and this FAQ are very informative.

Here are a few things to note:

The tuition fees and the process generally would differ depending on a number of factors:  the type institution you’re applying to whether it’s pre-school, grade school, university, public, private, international; and your visa or residency – employment pass, permanent resident, etc.

It’s best to check the requirements of the schools that fit your criteria.   You can find schools with the Ministry of Education’s School Information Service.

One of the things I think our fellow pinoys would likely take note of is the biennial donation to the Education fund. In general, even if the parent is a Singapore citizen or SPR, the child will be considered as a foreign student unless the child is a Singapore citizen or SPR.  Foreign students are generally required to make a biennial donation of $1000 to the Education fund and generally pay higher school fees than Singaporean students.  The donation, however, is eligible for tax exemption.

For more information check out the International Student Admissions from the Ministry of Education website.

I hope this bit of information will give Redd an idea on how to put his son in a Singapore school.
