Last Sunday, I finally agreed to let Mr. Tsiken buy me an Asus Eee PC 8G. He’s been insisting we buy it and my thoughts initially were if I’m even going to buy one, I might as well buy the Eee PC 901. But they weren’t selling the 901 yet at the recent PC show and the price would probably be close to buying a regular laptop. (I’m saving up to upgrade my Canon 350D.)
But I’ve realized that the Eee PC 8G would allow me to be online anytime, anywhere there’s free wireless and even do some blogging. I don’t really need that much performance when I’m mobile anyway since I wouldn’t really be doing image editing on a UMPC.
The Eee PC 8G let’s me do the basic stuff which is surf the net, chat, (even video chat - it has a built-in mic and webcam), read pdfs, watch videos, listen to music, create documents. Plus, whenever we’re lying in bed, and Mr. Tsiken is watching TV, the laptop I’m using to surf is blocking his view of the TV. The keyboard is just right for my little fingers but a little too small for Mr. Tsiken’s. But even then, it’s still good for surfing or keeping up to date with current events.
It’s also the best time to buy the Eee PC 8G because the price has been greatly reduced. The Eee PC 8G was selling for S$768 (P23800) just last March. At the recent PC Show, it was selling at S$598 (P18540). The 4G version was selling at S$398. I got mine at Harvey Norman for S$528 (P16370) (The 4G version is still selling at the same price during the PC show).
Good thing it was out of stock at Carrefour. Because during the PC show, the Eee PC 8G was also selling at Carrefour for S$598. But you get 5% discount if you charge it to your POSB credit card though you cannot pay in 0% installment if you choose the 5% discount which makes it cheaper to buy at Carrefour. But when we checked at Carrefour last Sunday, they were already out of stock. So we went to Harvey Norman and was pleasantly surprised to see that they’ve slashed the price of the Eee PC 8G to S$528 and we can even pay for it in 0% 12 month installments. That’s just S$44 (P1360) for 12 months. I got my discount and got to pay in installments! Cool!
I was hoping to buy from Carrefour so I can get a sticker for every $20 I spend and redeem it for a teflon frying pan hehehe. Oh well, can’t get everything.

Magagamit nyo pareho ni tia. Lalo na when travelling. Kasya sa bag ni tia. Magaan lang naman eh. May sleeve naman na kasama so kahit yun lang ang dala mo. Wag mo lang papa snatch sa jeep.
We were playing with voice command functions nung eeePC, eh lahat ng voice commands preceded with the word “computer”. Hehe para kong si Dexter of Dexter’s Lab. para talagang laruan hehehe.
