PR Formalities

June 24th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Today, we completed the formalities for our Singapore Permanent Residence at the ICA building on Lavender St.

We first had to go for an X-ray and blood exam to check for Tuberculosis and HIV.  We had the exam done at the Raffles Hospital near Bugis Station a few days before. That took us about half a day.

Then the formalities stuff at the ICA today also took about half a day.  We didn’t even have the earliest appointment which was at 8:30.  Ours was at 9 am.

The thing I like about Singapore is the efficiency. From the time we arrived at the Permanent Residence processing area, you take a queue number for the self service kiosk, then just wait for your number to be called.  Everything’s computerized and what’s best is that all the counters are manned!  So there’s really very little waiting time. Well, that’s compared to my prior experience on lining up at 6AM at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Manila just to get my passport renewed or lining up in UP at 6AM (notice that 6AM is the earliest I can get anywhere really) during enlistment before the CRS online thingy was put in place.

We paid a total of S$200 per person for the processing of our Permanent Residence.  That’s S$100 for the application + S$50 re-entry permit + S$50 IC card.   (A little steep but I guess there’s a price for efficiency.)

What’s nice too is that the whole time we were doing the requirements,  at Raffles or at the ICA, people were courteous.  The thing I always dread when processing documents is having to face people who hate what they do and vent on you.

Siguro nga. I think pati if gov’t officials weren’t as corrupt the NBN deal would have been good in essence kasi linked na lahat ng gov’t offices.

    Hi,

could you please let me know the “whole process/procedure” of completion the formalities for PR? please…

I’ll be doing it also in the end of Oct.
currently I have full-time employment letter, medical report, photoes, etc (all required doc).

can I complete the formalities within one day?
re-entry permit is for 5 years?
how long does it take for getting the IC card?

    thanks very much!! :)

    Hi Cathy,

Sorry if my reply is a bit late.

When we got the notice for PR approval, the letter instructed us to sign up for a slot online which I did. Then since we already knew which time slot we’re on, we just had to go during that slot we picked. No need to get in line on that day. We were able to finish the formalities within the day.

Re entry permit is for 5 years. As for the card, we picked it up at the ICA a couple of days after.

Are you doing the formalities this end of October? or are you just starting your application?

When we applied for PR we had to bring all the requirements that was stated in the form at the ICA. It’s best to get there really early for PR application because you have to take a queue number. We got the letter of approval after 3 months.

    Good luck! :)
