After going to the PC show yesterday, we found ourselves wandering in the Suntec City mall when we heard someone singing in the mall. It’s always easy to tell whether a Filipino was singing because it’s almost always generally good.
So we decided to check it out and saw this gay guy singing while almost molesting some poor guy from the audience. The audience were shrieking because the singer was trying to really kiss the guy and he was trying to put the guys hands on his sensitive parts. At one time, he even knelt down and sang to the guy’s microphone (if ya know what I mean). Maybe I’m just conservative but it was bordering on uncomfortable to watch.
And I was thinking maybe more so for the conservative Singaporeans. Since we’ve been here, I’ve hardly even seen “comedy-bar-gay-types” or “parlor-gays” here. If I wanted to go out on a limb, I might even say that it seems lesbians are more accepted than gays because I see more lesbians than gays here. I also vaguely remember reading in the newspaper months back something to the effect of the government accepting homosexuals but not wanting to promote the lifestyle. This is a country where playboy.com is blocked. It’s like one big office!
So anyhoo, both Mr. Tsiken and I had no idea who was singing. My best guess was he was Dolly Carvajal’s son/daughter whose name escapes me at the moment. We asked the kababayan who was watching beside us and “she/he” said it Vice Ganda. I said, “Bice?” Thinking it was Bice like Bo Bice.
Mr. Tsiken said not knowing who Vice Ganda was is probably a good reason to subscribe to TFC which sponsored the variety show. (No, we won’t be subscribing yet.)
In fairness, natawa ko sa dance moves nya.

I agree, Mitch. Hindi nga naman natin teritoryo kasi ang Singapore that’s why we have to respect din their culture.
I think it was in poor taste. It’s not a very good representation of the Filipinos and neither of the gay community. To think na ang point nung buong Suntec event na yun is to promote the Philippines to tourists.
