We still have to go through the formalities – like a personal interview and medical check ups but we got our approval letter already.
It took about 3 months since we filed the application and between those 3 months we were asked to submit CVs of Mr. Tsiken’s entire family and mine. How their CVs affect our application for permanent residence beats me. Would the results have been different if my parents were farmers or fishermen? I have no idea.
But here we are, entering a new chapter in our life. Not 2 years ago, we weren’t even thinking of going abroad to work. The Philippines is where our families are and that’s where we wanted to stay.
But Mr. Tsiken was offered an opportunity that made us think about our current situation and which direction we were heading. Plus just having gotten married added a whole feeling of this-is-no-longer-playtime. So we bit the offer and here we are today in Singapore as soon to be Permanent Residents. Looking back at that crossroad, I can say we did make the right decision. But I can’t say we are very proud of it as the patriots in us feel guilty about leaving the country we were born to.
