When I hear the name Illac Diaz, for some reason what comes to mind is his Johnson and Johnson baby oil ad way back when I was high school – probably because he was shirtless.
But now, he’s famous for the many awards he is reaping for his entrepreneurship. I saw him featured on TV years back for his Pier One venture which offers low cost accommodations in Manila for transient seamen. Many of his other projects involve solving problems of poor communities in the Philippines. Recently he’s been featured on Inquirer for being named a “Young Global Leader of 2008″.
What he’s done is truly inspiring. I hope more people follow his path to social entrepreneurship. Now here’s one person I would vote for if he ever decided to run for office though I seriously hope he doesn’t. He can do more good and affect more change doing what he’s doing now just as Manny Pacquiao can do more good serving as an inspiration to Filipinos through boxing not running for office.
Kudos to Illac Diaz and keep up the outstanding job!
