I’m sure by now you’ve heard about Australian Brian Gorrell’s blog about his experience with Manila’s socialites. If you haven’t then you must’ve been very busy. Brian’s blog has been around for a while but it’s now gaining media exposure with his blog being featured in Inquirer. His blog is, at the least, an entertaining read. It’s like watching Showbiz Lingo without the advertisements. At one point, his blog became a free for all venue where the anonymous comments left on his posts were sometimes more entertaining. But then again, it’s only entertaining when you’re not the topic of the word vomit. I personally know someone who found herself as collateral damage to that blog and is not very happy about it. I suppose the appeal of his blog and any other medium that tells the dirt on other people is it gives readers somewhat of an affirmation that there’s really no reason to be envious of high profile people because like everyone else they are only human, or in Brian’s case, less than human. One can be happy and content with life as long as you’re confident you haven’t wronged anyone and you’re at peace with the universe.
The way Brian’s blog shot to fame in a matter of a few weeks is probably every blogger’s dream. But of course, the reason he’s blogging in the first place is no laughing matter. I’m glad that since my last visit, he’s monetized his blog. Pretty soon he could be able to recoup what the Talented Mr. Montano (allegedly) took from him. Though his blog income would probably never replace the money he (allegedly) lost from DJ Montano because that money had a lot of emotions tied to it, at least he has some money that can keep him secure while he’s waiting for Mr. Montano to grow a conscience.
Good luck, Brian!
And on a related topic: This is what Malu Fernandez has to say about Brian’s blog and blogging in general. Just in case you’re wondering who Malu Fernandez is and how she relates to this post, she was notorious for the travel article she wrote last year and her experience with having OFWs in the same flight.
In the internet age, the pen is really mightier than the sword.
