Taxi fare increase
January 27th, 2008 · 3 Comments
Just last year, I was always complaining about how it was so difficult to get a cab and that a lot of cab drivers were very picky about their passengers. I used to wait up to an hour in the taxi queue specially during the peak hours.Â
So naturally I was amazed when after doing my groceries at Dhoby Ghaut,  I found that there was no queue at the taxi stand. What was even more amazing was that it only took a few minutes for a taxi to arrive. But my amazement didn’t last too long though, coz when I got to my place, the usual fare of S$10 (more or less) was now S$17!Â
It turns out there’s been a recent adjustment in cab fares. As if it weren’t confusing enough before, this time there’s been an increase in the flag down for those hailing taxis from the city. Whatevs, I never really could calculate my cab fare, I just always hope that the driver is honest.Â
These days, I see a lot of taxis in queue but no people queuing for them. Kinda ironic when you think about how it was just last month.Â
Before the fare hike, I read that it was actually cheaper to just take a taxi everyday to work than buy a car but with the fare hike, the convenience of having a car, if you can afford it, seems much better.
Anyways here’s the new fare table for Singapore taxi cabs:
