Fried Prawn Mee

it tastes better than it looks

this is just a fraction of the queue

It’s funny how people get curious when they see long lines for something.  They start hovering around the crowd and try to see what’s the fuss about.  This is how we found out about the fried prawn mee at the Food Rebuplic at the top floor of Wisma Atria on Orchard Rd.

Usually, when it’s our first time to eat at a certain place, we look at what people are eating.  Being new to Singapore we wanted to try everything.  When we first came in the Food Republic at Wisma (which is more like just a food court ), we noticed that a lot of people were eating this noodle dish.  We knew it was the same dish coz it comes in a dried leaf made into some sort of cone as a plate.   Walking a bit farther to the end of the food court we noticed this stall Thye Hong that had a really long line (oops, locals call them) queue.   It was both tempting knowing that people were probably lining queuing up for something good and at the same time it was discouraging coz the line queue can get really long.

But we figured whatever it is, it must be really good coz people are lining up despite that stall being the only one among the adjacent stalls to have a cleanliness rating of B.  (The neighbouring stalls had an A rating.)  So we decided to give it a try.  The queue moved quite quickly once the noodles were cooked.

The verdict:  It’s definitely worth trying.  Mr. Tsiken loved it.   I’m not really a fan of pancit but I also like it (not as much as he does though).  We’d usually ask for extra calamansi as they only give 1 per order.  I crave for it every now and then.

The B rating for cleanliness isn’t really bad.  Initially I thought the highest rating they gave was a D because most of the stalls in the hawker places have a C rating.  Hehe

Now that we know what’s the fuss about,  we enjoy looking at the question marks on people’s head while passing by that stall while enjoying our fried prawn mee.
