Getting in touch with loved ones in the Philippines

June 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Since we are still contemplating if we really need the Kababayan card (coz we already have 2 mobile phones subscribed to Singtel), let me share the tools we use to get in touch with our families back home.

Yahoo Messenger / (Skype)

We taught our parents how to use YM and encouraged them to get cable internet so we can chat and, call PC-to-PC, and see each other on webcam anytime for free.  We leave each other offline messages often and I get to talk to them almost every night.  Plus my parents are now internet savvy and it’s nice that they have realized the amount of information they have access to with the internet.

Chikka Messenger

If they’re not online, this is how I send messages to their cellphones.  It’s cheaper than international text messaging.

Globe G-webcall

Globe post paid users overseas can call any Globe subscriber for just P7.50/min using g-webcall.  The call is automatically charged to my Globe postpaid account which I can easily pay via BPI Expressonline.

Anyone else willing to share tips on how to touch base?
