Going around Singapore

May 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Singapore is small country of 646 sq km.  It’s almost the size of Manila which is 636 sq km BUT not as densely populated.  It’s pretty easy to go around Singapore because the transportation system is very efficient.  To Pinoys though, one difference between commuting in Manila and commuting in Singapore is that buses in Singapore stop and only stop at specific bus stops.  There’s no such thing as “Para mam – dyan lang!”  So if you’ve missed your stop (like I have done a number of times already) expect to do some heavy walking.  Even if you didn’t miss your stop, you’re still probably going to have to walk a few meters to your destination.  So be prepared.

The MRT system is also very efficient.   There are 3 major mrt lines that span Singapore namely the East-West, North-South, North-East lines.  Soon (ie in 2010), the Circle line will be operational and would make transportation even more efficient.   These lines are connected by interchange so you can switch from one line to another.
